COMETS & COLT .45s PUT ON HOLD

The Comets and the Colt .45s played 5.2 innings into Game 2 on Sunday, only to have the 3-3 tie suspended by rain.  Efforts are being made to make the game up before the two teams meet on June 29.

Phil Motley was in the midst of another strong outing when the game was halted, holding one of the GPMABL’s best teams to 3 runs in 5 innings (1 ER).  Motley was also at the plate when the game was stopped, with runners on first and third and two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

Game 1 proved to be more of the same for the hard luck Comets, as they dropped their fifth one-run game of the season, 4-3.  Starter Dana Erb yielded just 1 earned run in the complete game loss.  Leading for the entire game, the Colt .45s added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 4-2.  Comets shortstop Jeremy Honaker closed the gap with his first home run of the year, a majestic solo shot to make it 4-3.  The Comets were unable to pull any closer as veteran Colt .45s starter Ian Downes completed the win for the visitors.
